Siva K. Chockalingam M.D.
Dr. Chockalingam earned his medical degree from Madras Medical College in India. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at UMDNJ- University Hospital in Newark, N.J. and a fellowship in Gastroenterology at University of South Carolina-Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.
Board Eligible in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, Dr. Chockalingam's clinical interests include hepatology, pancreatic biliary, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, colon polyps, colon cancer, ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography), colonoscopy and optical endoscopic imaging. He treats patients 18 years and older and speaks fluent Tamil.
Dr. Chockalingam also served as Former Chief of Gastroenterology and a Former Acting Chief of Hepatology at Dorn Veterans Medical Center in Columbia, SC from 2000 to 2002. He also held the position of Assistant Professor in Digestive Disease and Nutrition at USC School of Medicine in Columbia.
Dr. Chockalingam's style of practice and philosophy centers on providing personalized care tailored to each patient's specific clinical problem. He takes time to explain the details of a procedure, allowing each patient to make an informed decision about care and to know, well in advance, what to expect. It is important to him for patients to have both timely access to necessary procedures and care coordinated in a multidisciplinary approach.
He employs the latest technology to diagnose and treat certain types of gastrointestinal cancers and performs procedures endoscopically. In his leisure time, he enjoys traveling, watching sports, spending time with his family and friends.
